Beautiful jewelry, like this Cherokee Heart Necklace, has always been a part of life for the tribal people of the Southeastern United States. Copper was traded from the Great Lakes region beginning about 3000 years ago. It was combined with gold, mica, carved stone, pink and silver mussel shell, bone and freshwater pearls to create intricate designs that continue to be worn into modern times by Cherokee men and women.
